Vlado's Book of the Masked copybook, which was written by his "living hand", which may be
"a fake" he laughingly averred, lessons given to him by the master spies, it sems, that were 'field notes" ...including "some of the symbols, vector an Quaternion notation Kit had shown her"------[far, far away from Vlado's world, of course, but spying is everywhere, it fills the sky wirelessly...]....
She can almost grasp "the math argument of the classic sort" but......she willed herself to retreat.....................to forget whatever math linkage or analogy [might lead] to total madness.....
I want to say that Pynchon MEANS this almost literally....that is, that if Yashmeen pursued the math, that way madness would lie.....and is part of TRPs belief about most ot the math
arguments in AtD.....
"Everywhere terms containing time stood like infiltrators at a masked ball"
terms containing time when googled leads to equations regarding a rocket in flight!---
http//www.krellinst.org/UCES//modules/rocket/rocket/node10.html
From the above: "This was equivalent to accelerating the variable-mass rocket horizontally, like a sled. This problem we found to be non-linear. However, if you examine it closely you will see that it is variable separable. That is, we could have rearranged it to get all the velocity, V, terms on one side and terms containing time, t, on the other. By using trigonometric substitution we could have solved that by hand. Only when we asked MAPLE to integrate velocity to obtain displacement were we disappointed and had to resort to a numerical approximation. This simply demonstrates the limitations of symbolic computation in performing integration. As a final exercise before tackling the full equation, take the full rocket equation and eliminate the aerodynamic drag from the sum of forces but include the weight force. The result will be a linear equation:
Ye olde delta T????
But is this a misdirection (by this googling)?.......is time like infiltrators at a masked ball a
good thing"........as when TRP wrote in M & D that 'time was an essential ingredient of all recipes?
Yashmeen is more human full of longing and unable to forget [for now] her missing lover..."
yashmeen lives in time, lost Vlado time and now grief and longing rather than in the
timeless world of math, now? She is forgetting her math-----for love?
I'm finished (as Daniel Plainview says at the end of There Will be Blood)...for now.-----MK
