It struck me differently: that laughter and scorn, the grinning refusal to
take Them seriously, is the deepest and best -- OK, maybe the only --
offense and defense.
It can't bring their victims back to life, but it can make it harder for
them to weave their spells. I put Duck Soup and The Great Dictator and Dr.
Strangelove up there with Grand Illusion and Paths of Glory and Night and
Fog.
