When I finish the section, I think it is clear. Jardine was not dead--it had not happened yet---it was one of those possible futures foretold....she vanishes (in a plane over TRPs dangerous things) over the desert creating a powerful shaped silence.

Time Past to the present..............................like a TV transmission.................like the new
transatlantic cable that can be seen through from NY to England...................
 
And her silent lips were speaking as if to him as if she could see him, too. Almost communication but i'sn't "more'.... 
 
Note that snowball, maybe hanging in the air in the past, alluding to the opening of M & D? TRP likes thrown snowballs.
