Merle can make a kind of silent film show of a life from a photograph....with different choices............

Lew wants to see Troth, then some real poetry from TRP showing what the passing of time does
to human beings, his ex------Troth.........."the scumbling of time" [GR]............he hoped he could even hear her and imagines he does....Lew's Remembrance of Things Past..............

"I wish it could be more, 's all" says Merle...who takes a photo of Dally he has and runs it to the present, seeing her change and then exist NOW............a kind of ether-transmitted movie from
Time Past to the present..............................like a TV transmission.................like the new
transatlantic cable that can be seen through from NY to England...................

And her silent lips were speaking as if to him as if she could see him, too. Almost communication but i'sn't "more'.... 

Note that snowball, maybe hanging in the air in the past, alluding to the opening of M & D? TRP likes thrown snowballs.
