Gevurah, on the pillar of severity (left) (in array with the pillar of Mercy
(right) and the Middle Pillar (balance) associated with Mars, the sephirah
of Justice,
is enmeshed with Tiphareth and counterbalanced by Chesed (Jupiter) (Mercy)
a clickable Tree: http://ifdawn.com/
I'd hesitate to accord OBA less than the full range of the Tree,
but in relation to Gibson and Stephenson, I thought that was a pretty good
placement...
there's a lot of tenderness in Pynchon -
Cyprian stopping to listen to piano etudes through a window,
moments like Slothrop's Dad reassuring him about winter birds
(and answering Holden Caulfield's puzzlement about the birds in Central
Park)
fight scenes are played for extra-fighteous values
(contrast Gibson's or Stephenson's different expressions of relish for
weapons and tactics
with the quick splat of Sloat's demise and instant regret...Gibson's
zaibatsu kidnappings or
the Stephenson Marine-dude's death scene with the interruptus of Foley's
preemptive
gunslinging at Vibe's passing, or the many empathetic details of the
cafe-bombing or (to a lesser
extent) the train-wreck)
we don't linger on misery or glory in one side's victory
we are not inflamed towards a cause but enticed to critical analysis
please note, I love the writing of Gibson and Stephenson...
