Havabananda - just on the off chance that something beyond "have a
banana" is meant, let me point out that "ananda" means bliss in
Sanskrit, and "Havab" stands for Hepatitis A Virus Anti-Bodies.

"Risking a lifelong career in law enforcement...in the service of the
ever-dwindling attention span of an ever more infantilized population.
 A sorry spectacle."
I hear an Indian accent (that of the convenience store owner on The
Simpsons), but somebody much closer to the scene, possibly Hector
though the quote is unattributed, says "Yah, well you sound like
Howard Cosell."

"Unless he's out looking for her too?"
Later for Brock's reasoning, his POV, his motives...we just met the
guy! Not even met, just heard of him. However, it's clear from Van
Meter's comment that there was another federal guy "porkin' Zoyd's
wife", and Brock Vond is "another federal guy"; and we've heard about
a "underground of the state" where Frenesi's been. So whatever his
motives there's probably some sex involved.

NATO-camouflaged guys and gals of the Tubaldetox goon squad
-- here is one picture of such duds

"We can keep him under observation, but if he wants to, he can be back
on the street inside of a week."
so, hardly a dire fate awaiting Hector.

the Tubaldetox paddy wagon, which went screeching off just as Isaiah
Two Four and his friends came screeching in
-- just goes to show you, Jane, it's always something.

What I wonder, come to think of it - Zoyd didn't blink when confronted
with the co-ed camping trip, and yet managed to send I24 off to the
phone and change the subject...
anyway, even in what is rapidly becoming the shambles of his domestic
routine, he manages to spend a last evening with Prairie, just by
asking to.

"You already know how to live on the road"
Huh? from when? I thought she was still in school. Living at home in
Vineland steadily since they moved there. Oh wait, he's talking to
I24, isn't he? But he's also a Vineland kid.
"Do you think you might be safer if you kept movin'?" Eckshually he's
easing Isaiah down the road, isn't he, away from the certainty of
Prairie's retribution for the "pork" comment...

"But if you were me, wouldn't you do the same?"
He hated questions like that. He wasn't her. She could make him feel
so old and tainted.

well, we are coming near to the end of Chapter 4. What do you think,
is he old and tainted?

Page 54

"who were all 'ese ladies kickin' in my door all the time?"...
"But all you ever date is ... girls..."

the complexities here could easily lead one astray. Old and tainted
he is, but he has a lot of friends and it seems to me a serious
pervert wouldn't. Furthermore, Child Protective Services isn't
without resources...
Still, Prairie holds him to a higher standard and this makes him "try
to look competent"
But is he totally leaning on her? Not really. Is he going to fail at
looking competent? No, because he is fairly competent. He's just not
happy.

"In the morning, full of marsh birds, cigarette smoke, and television
audio" - ie, in the morning, [which is] full of [these things]
the other option is that the Vomitones Van is full of marsh birds,
cigarette smoke, and television audio, and I think it's artistry to
tease at that meaning but it'd be "some doper's idea" of surrealism to
blatantly say that.

"Zoyd had no clear idea of what Prairie might be going into, felt
helpless, didn't even know if he'd missed something last night and she
was really going away for good."
think about it dude, how will she know where to come back to?
Or, change the boundaries just a little (Donovan's Season of the
Witch, "you've got to pick up every stitch") "if he'd missed something
last night" might mean that he had thought the situation thru and done
everything required, to the best of his ability and philosophy, which
have worked before...but he might have missed something; also, this
segues into their agreement to "keep in touch through Sasha Gates"

Page 55

straightforward page, imho
however, "cloudpressed lane" does anybody have anything beyond
a) they're in a marsh, so there might be clouds of fog in the morning
b) harkens back to motorhead roulette in the tulle fog
c) also could be a cloud of exhaust and/or sand from the van's progress
