I too understand, Henry, but I grabbed as much of the era as I could
at that young age.

I was born in '58, and had the fortune (being an Air-Force Brat) to be
in Reston, VA from '68 to '73, a pretty intense time period to enter
adolescence (that would be age 10 through 15).  In a very Vinelandy
coincidence, these were the very years of the lifespan of the "Mod
Squad" TV show, and I was a fan.  I remember buying the most
outlandishly huge bell bottom jeans when I was twelve, and doing my
best to grow my hair longer than My father wanted by slicking it down
behind my ears.

I had an older sister who was quite adventurous/rebellious who took us
to some of the last (1971, I think) anti-war rallies in DC, as well as
to her Hispanic hippie friend's house somewhere in a probably seedy DC
neighborhood.  I remember my parent's accusing me of being high before
I'd ever had a chance to be so, so I decided I might as well taste the
pleasure if I was going to feel the pain anyway.  My first VERY
intense acid trips were at the age of 13, before I'd even tasted pot.
By the age of 16, I'd had my fill of acid & pot and went "clean," got
born again, and stayed more-or-less that way for the next 10 years.

But for the lat 20 years or so I've been off that stuff too, thank Jeebus!

But I didn't read GR until 1984.
