The problem is that the codes are un-converted over at WASTE, into  
something that can no longer be read as anything but junk when stored  
at the Waste archives. The back and forth for us active in the p-list  
is passed along to my Comcast or Apple e-mail reader where  
everything's fine, but Tim Ware looking up the same messages at:

http://waste.org/mail/?list=pynchon-l&month=0812

Has him reading messages like:

http://waste.org/mail/?list=pynchon-l&month=0812&msg=130989&sort=date

. . . with parts coming out like:
