Ch46's final section takes the form of a coda, Reef continuing his departure
now by rail, another way in which he might enter the mountain, from worker
to paying customer. The Tatzelwurm is replaced by the "not entirely opaque
presence" who will interrogate Reef. The voice that speaks to him fills in
the detail Reef himself had earlier omitted from the "version of his ...
story" told to Ramiz on 654. A return of the repressed. Cf. Frank's "one
recurring dream" towards the end of Ch45 (649-650).
