Sorry a bit late on this, but I've been enjoying reading this title on
Shambhala online at google books. Also after reading some analytical
mathematics in the book Millennium Problems, which I'm about 1/2 way
through with, I can point to some parts that reminds me of the mathematics
angle certainly touches the shambhala topic. There is a connection, I think
between the expressions of infinity, and the search for shambhala. I am no
mathematician but I keep encountering parts of the book that suggest "the
closer you get to 1 or 0 or something... sorry book on in hand.. the number
approaches infinity" and stuff like that. Well, the closer you get to
Shambhala, "A set of directions to it would exhibit precicely the same dual
reality, the shifting orientation toward the miraculous.. the nearer the
destination is approached.
if that below link doesn't work, then enter these terms into google book

"It helps to be a Buddhist" and a yogi to boot. In 'The Way to Shambhala",
the interviewed lamas emphasise that only a yogi can see what is hidden
from common adventurers.
"By now the city outside..." Another beautiful sentence.

fourteener
In mountaineering terminology in the United States, a fourteener is a
mountain that exceeds 14,000 feet (4,267.2 m) above mean sea level. The
importance of fourteeners is greatest in Colorado, which has the majority
of such peaks in North America. Climbing all of Colorado's fourteeners is a
popular pastime among peak baggers. Many people also try to climb all of
the fourteeners in the contiguous United States. Several ski mountaineers
have also completed ski descents of all the Colorado fourteeners, and the
first attempts are being made to complete ski descents of all U.S.
fourteeners.

Lake Baikal
Situated in south-east Siberia, the 3.15-million-ha Lake Baikal is the
oldest (25 million years) and deepest (1,700 m) lake in the world. It
contains 20% of the world's total unfrozen freshwater reserve. Known as the
'Galapagos of Russia', its age and isolation have produced one of the
world's richest and most unusual freshwater faunas, which is of exceptional
value to evolutionary science.

"critters unknown elsewhere in Creation"
The lake has been found to have more than a thousand species that are
exclusive to it. Sponges and algae, mollusks, salmon and sturgeon live
there, together with a strange creature, the Comephorus baikalensis, a
transparent viviparous fish that lives in its depths. But the most famous
of these exclusive species, and its most advanced predator, is the Baikal
seal, the only freshwater seal in the world, whose arrival must have
occurred by chance during the prehistoric thawing of the rivers of the
North.

Mount Kailash
A great mass of black rock soaring to over 22,000 feet, Mt. Kailash has the
unique distinction of being the world's most venerated holy place at the
same time that it is the least visited. The supremely sacred site of four
religions and billions of people, Kailash is seen by no more than a few
thousand pilgrims each year. This curious fact is explained by the
mountain's remote location in far western Tibet. No planes, trains or buses
journey anywhere near the region and even with rugged over-land vehicles
the journey still requires weeks of difficult, often dangerous travel. The
weather, always cold, can be unexpectedly treacherous and pilgrims must
carry all the supplies they will need for the entire journey.

Mt. Kailash is regarded by Hindus as an embodiment of Shiva and Parvati.
The Buddhists refer to the sacred mountain as Kangri Karchchak; they regard
the presiding deity of Mt. Kailash as Deity with three eyes, holding the
damaru and the trishul; his consort is referred to as Dorje Fangmo. The
Jains regard Mt. Kailash as the Ashtapada mountain where the first
Tirtankara Adinath (Rishabhadeva) attained nirvana.

Khan Tengri (Uighur, translated as "Lord of the spirits", or "Lord of the
sky"; or Turkic translated as "Ruler of Skies", "Ruler Tengri") is a
mountain of the Tian Shan mountain range. It is located on the
Kyrgyzstan—Kazakhstan border, east of lake Issyk Kul. Its geologic
elevation is 6,995 m (22,949 ft) but its glacial cap rises to 7,010 m
(22,999 ft). For this reason, in mountaineering circles, including for
the Soviet Snow Leopard award criteria, it is considered a 7000-metre peak.
It is also known as: Khan Tangiri Shyngy, Kan-Too Chokusu, Pik Khan-Tengry,
Hantengri Feng.
