[edit] "Sweding" The process of Mike and Jerry's efforts to recreate their erased videos is described as sweding in the film. The tapes are described as having come from Sweden as an excuse for higher rental fees and longer wait times.
In light of the theme of sweding, director Michel Gondry swedes a version of the trailer of the film, starring Gondry himself. On the official website, users can engage in sweding, which puts their faces on the VHS cover of a movie.[3] The Be Kind Rewind YouTube minisite also encourages filmmakers to swede their own versions of popular movies.[4]

[edit] Production Filming of Be Kind Rewind took place over several weeks in the fall of 2006 largely in and around Passaic, New Jersey.
The plot of Be Kind Rewind bears some resemblances to a recurring sketch, "Blockblister", in the Nickelodeon program The Amanda Show (aired 1999-2002), leading to accusations of possible plagiarism.[5] Gondry claims he had the concept of "this kid who would remake these movies" for "years".[6]

I found this website w/ an email contact for Heather Lawless.

And I sent her this email:

Heather,

In the trailer for "Be Kind Rewind" a man walks up next to you into
the video store with a tape and says "This video don't work." On the
Thomas Pynchon internet reading group at Waste.org someone has
suggested that the unidentified man is Thomas Pynchon. He does look
like the very few photos taken of him many years ago. Could you tell
us if that is correct?

Sincerely,
David Morris

Let's see if she replies.
