Saw a quote from Lacan basically saying it is thru mirrors that we moderns confirm our identity.........give me 25 words on THAT when you feel like it.............

  in my upcoming hosting involving masks----the text not me!---I have some associations with Walter Benjamin from other parts of the text. Benjamin finds thru Baudelaire I think that masks come with modernity...................

brief addendum: the "American" modifier not completely
complementary, cf the Japanese guys in Colorado likening
the American spirit to a sword, and Umeki Peachblossom
saying Americans basically have no shame ---
Dalley, Pynchon has her admit around this section somewhere,
has snatched purses, perhaps lethally defended herself,
