Ship transformation, Stooges style

"Now, with Hitler threatening to invade Poland and bomb shelters
being erected in London, even the Queen Mary was crowded with people
anxious to put an ocean between them and the worsening crisis.
All the staterooms were reserved, but the Stooges and their wives decided
to book passage anyway....
A glance at the changes that the Queen Mary had undergone
in the past month confirmed everyone's view of the urgency
of their departure: a cannon had been mounted, and a gun crew
was aboard in case of attack.
Fortunately, Lord Beaverbrook and his entourage had been forced
to cancel their reservations at the last moment, and the Stooge families
were able to take over his abandoned suites. And aside from the
titters of excitement that came for the occasional U-boat sightings,
it was a trouble-free crossing"
(from _Larry, the Stooge in the Middle_ by Morris "Moe" Feinberg)
