sequel to C of Lot 49?

In this lit scholar I've been reading, name of Hartmann, he says this:
   
  ""Underworld" could be seen as a sequel to Pynchon's "Crying of Lot 49""....goes on to
  mention 'waste management" and stuff..  it is all an aside.
   
  His book deals with many Pynhconian themes---the Word is one big one---yet he never mentions P's work (escept above so far) always some other, usually older works................
   
  And his remark on Underworld, a good one, does however seem to see Lot 49 ONLY in W.A.S.T.E. echoes.....(or is that 'discharges'?)...
