Of course "rangy" also hearkens back to Dally's wild-west roots (to paraphrase a previous comment by another poster: you can take the Dally outta the range, but you can't take the range outta Dally -- note that most of the OED usage examples for "rangy" refer to horses). Compare "rangy nakedness" to the mathematical quip describing Yashmeen: in "rangy" we see an earthier phrase used to describe the earthier gal? But both women are wanders for/from duplicitous fathers?

Yes! This is especially worth noting because Pynchon has been criticized for failing to create characters that readers care about. I seem to recall that the ending of M&D surprised some critics who didn't expect to feel close to Pynchon characters.
