I'm such a schnorer. Just finished my annual re-read of 'CoL49' and decided
to hit 'V.' again, thinking maybe I didn't give it fair shrift my first
go-round back in '03. So here I am, a third of the way through, and I'm
subscribing to Pynchon-L because I'm (frankly) dissatisfied w/ the
annotations I've encountered thus far online. Is there a companion to 'V.'
in the same way that there is to 'Gravity's Rainbow'? Like, *paper,* man.
Not looking for a cheat or anything, it's just that I rather enjoyed
Weisenberger's 'G.R. Companion' as its own little pile of anecdotes &
curios, something for afterward to clarify & cleanse the palatte... While
the V. wiki at Pynchonwiki.com is kind of a slice of nice, it's rather...
thin, esp. in comparison to its siblings. Ethereal, even, considering as
it's not actually print, and me being fond of garnishing my shelves and all.
Going through the Pynchon-L archives (hovering around '94 or so) I noted
that a number of others were feeling a similar drought of critical attention
to the novel. Has this changed? So far the best I've read re: V.-- and
then, only *tangentially* --was 'Signs & Symptoms: Thomas Pynchon & The
Contemporary World' by Peter L. Cooper.
Any suggestions? Leads? Secrets garnished with exotic, aromatic leaves,
hidden beneath chafing dishes?
I'm such a schnorer.
Thanks,
rev'D
