When Inherent Vice disappeared from the Kindle store, I contacted
Amazon to ask "what's up?" and was reassured that my pre-order,
scheduled to ship on 8/4 was still in place. When I woke up this
morning I received instead this email message:
> Hello from Amazon.com.

> We’re writing to let you know that Inherent Vice by Thomas Pynchon
> will not be released by the publisher in Kindle format on August 4,
> 2009. We had hoped to make this title available for Kindle on the

> We apologize for any disappointment or inconvenience this may cause.
> You haven’t been charged for this order.

> Currently, we don’t know when this item will be released for Kindle,

> it becomes available from the publisher in the future.

So I still have a pre-order! (but not the book & audio, which have
shipped but probably won't arrive until tomorrow.) And the decision,
should I abandon or postpone completion of my re-read of AtD now at
p782 which I had planned to complete last night?
