I'm now the happy owner of both the American and English hardcover
editions of IV (as well as a couple of English trade paperbacks,
just in case), and as usual the American edition is much nicer than
the English one. Just to take the dust-jacket as an example: The
English jacket is matte and flat, as opposed to the glossy American
jacket with its embossed lettering on the front. The colours are also
much more vibrant on the American jacket. On the other hand, someone
at Cape decided to put some palm fronds at the top of the back cover
(as opposed to the American version, where there is just a starry sky
above the waves and the beach). I wonder what's with those fronds?
As has already been pointed out, the inner flaps on the Cape edition
have a black backgrund, whereas the US flaps combine white and pink.

The binding on the American edition is also slightly nicer than the
English one: Two kinds of dark blue paper - one for the back strip, one
for the boards - whereas the English edition is just bound in one kind
of black paper. The English edition is slightly thicker than the American
one (as was the English AtD), but the paper seems just as nice in the
American edition. In other words: If you have the choice, I'd recommend
buying American!
