Another maybe-interesting slant on the P.I.

Although I cannot (and am not too interested in) reading it---the concept is good enough........

There seems to be a major essay in my biblio book that argues that the American tough guy P.I. is one of the best embodiments of the Protestant hero.....1) he does his duty, dutifully. he works hard. 2) he has his own--between him and his God, so to speak---old-fashioned sense of honor. Like a good Protestant. 3)his "salvation" is always at risk. No guaranteed grace.
