such white guy afros....

A...and, this scene seems to me to show, at the least,
an assimiliation, maybe an homage to African-American 
styles---a hair style is a literal style, yes?---think, at least
of TRPs shout-out to Ismael Reed in GR (and other allusions)

SLIGHT LOOKING AHEAD SPOILER:
In Chap. 2 we will get a neat joke about Doc

so easily"...
