No, I should probably amend that to "a lot of the paranoia" - enthusiasm
got the better of me for a second. But I would still stand by my assertion 
that paranoia is very explicitly tied together with the consumption of drugs
in the novel.

Yes, I think you're absolutely right. As I wrote in a later post, paranoia
is not merely a good force in IV (or the rest of Pynchon's work).
