My husband and a friend actually tried to go to the concert that night, probably arriving about an hour or so after Dylan had his encounter with the police. By then, it was raining torrentially. At the entrance to the stadium, the security people forced everyone to relinquish their umbrellas. Umbrellas in the rain, apparently, are most likely to be used as weapons. The only protection from the rain was at the farthest point of the stadium away from the stage, with no view. Dylan wasn't due to sing for a couple of hours (Willie Nelson and John Melloncamp were up first), so my husband decided to split.

>Reminds me of the story from a few years back of Dylan, having gotten fed up with security breaches, or just feeling grumpy, issued an edict that nobody, but nobody, was to be allowed backstage. Shortly after, he was himself denied entry by an overzealous security guard!

>Saw Bob in concert (yet again) at Liverpool in May, me and a mate had been out around Penny Lane etc. revisiting old haunts (ours and teh Beatles') and decided not to take the tour of Lennon's house on Menlove Avenue - cos we'd been there before, albeit not inside, and we were pushed for time and felt we'd be better just doing our own thing. Imagine my glee on hearing that, that very afternoon, Dylan had joined the tourists on the bus to Lennon's old house and taken the tour, apparently without security. A near miss. That night, Dylan played 'Something' and the crowd went nuts.

>Towards the end of his set, an idiot jumped onstage and managed to get his arms round Bob's neck, before being bundled off to (hopefully) receive a serious beating. Although there are unreliable reports that he actually ended up getting to chat with Bob backstage....
