Funny how the noise/distraction level goes up when we're all excited
over a new book. Certain voices return, like the return of the
repressed, rehashing old arguments long settled, stuff that's already
over and done with but keeps coming back anyway. When I slithered into
the end-zone of Against the Day it felt real lonely, like everybody
just gave up.
Of course, some of us keep doing it anyway, we can't seem to stop. I
didn't feel like I was wasting my time, but I did feel like a lot of
folks bailed.
