I am going to ask again, since I think it could lead to an unknotting---or further knotting into---many of the questions that go around on the plist guitar. 

'as if through the veils of the next world"....Doc's, merged with narrator's metaphor. So, Doc believes in 'the next world' or it is just like any agnostic/atheist shouting "O God"....?

Does next world mean something secular here? just the future coming?

Veils of the next world: in many Eastern religions, veils are maya, illusion...Doc's resons for this metaphor?.......

In Western Christianity metaphors we seldom get 'veils' in my knowledge. Yours?   

Veils here remind of fog at the end (on the reread).
