<< And there is reason to believe that John Lennon was not straight when
he recorded Strawberry Fields, considering that he recorded two
versions and then instructed George Martin to splice them together
despite differences in tempo and key. >>

Ah Joe, that was down to Lennon's total ignorance of technical
matters. Well, that and a natural tendency to take the piss.

The story has been told many times, how Lennon only once took LSD in
the studio, by accident, and was taken up to the roof by George
Martin, to get some fresh air.

Of course songs such as SFF had their genesis in drug use. Lennon was
taking a lot of LSD around that time. But he did not record the song
whilst tripping.

The Beatles took drugs, whilst actually recording, a lot less than is
often supposed. Often they even avoided alcohol. Much of their
catalogue was recorded on nothing stronger than milky tea.
