That is very true.  In fact, someone somewhere had a mirror site
going, which was, and they were asked kindly but apparently firmly
enough that they took it down.  And I can see why ...

While the Archive thus remains, unfortunately, an undertapped resource
for critics, teachers, students and just plain old readers, it is thus
also prevented from being a hunting/gathering range for marketers,
spammers, stalkers, Nigerian businessmen, creditors, ex-whatevers, the
authorities, International Communism, THEM, and just plain old
wiseacres ...

This, I think, is perfectly Pynchonian in spirit AND letter, so ...
