parrots in Pynchon

Quail's riff on parrots sparks me to add:

We saved Raja, a severe Macaw, from her conditions in a relative's house.
After many years, we decided to pass her on to a parrot adoption agency.

I was standing in the garden with Raja on my hand, shortly before departure,
and she bit me harder than anytime in recent years. She knew I sold her out.
