Yes, I think his obsessive love is poignant, very poignant. He does seem to embody something like
"all you need is love" in his desire, although that, of course, is not the case here in Vineland.
His love is for a real, contradictory, elusive woman--unlike Humbert Humbert's obsession, say.
She is the love of his life; he cannot experience what he felt with Frenesi with anyone else.
