compare it to Esalen, but the coercive scene in the kitchen brings to mind this highly entertaining description of RD Laing (who taught at Esalen), by one of his followers/rejectors, Clancy Sigal.

(Sigal, by the way, was one of Doris Lessing’s boyfriends ["lover" seems a little grandiose]and became the basis of the character Saul Green in The Golden Notebook.)
