Floozy with an Uzi , Army without a cook

Sexiness can be pretty dangerous, and I think she may be disarming
her audience while remaining fully armed herself, with a trans -am
for a getaway. She is the underground of the lefts and right's
imagination, dangerous or just entertaining? The whole ninja army of
feminists seems to me to be a one dimensional fantasy of dangerous
opposition from the left which still reigned supreme under Reagan.
Remember Reagan talking about the dangers posed by NIcaragua , a mere
hop skip and a jump across Honduras Guatemala and Mexico to Invade
Texas. Pynchon imagines the fantasy Ninja army to show how silly the
fear was (albeit incredibly dangerous, costly, and destructive: star
wars el salvador, nicaragua,), while at the same time showing how
crushing the political left and especially the small militant
political left only rerouted the culture wars to gender issues,
alternative information technologies, and other areas of cultural
warfare. The cook thing was funny too, contrasting the actual self
reliance and survival skills of a poor 14 year old Hippie( not
gourmet, but food), with the coddled and fed rebellion of the upper
middle class zen retreat set. Its cartoonery but funny and true in
the sense of theory being too often more appealing to the over-
educated than doable action.
On the other hand DL does represent the real power of consistent
discipline. She may not be "pure" but she resists, actively and
aggressively. Her restraint is a measure of her self control and her
unwillingness to mirror the methods and bad karma of the fascists/
cultural totalitarians. She has helped keep intact a history she did
not inherit with her mothers milk but which she knows the value of.
I think P may be using her as a stand in for all the disciplined
artists, writers, workers, inventors, political leaders etc. who keep
on keeping on and form the foundations of an alternative culture.
