James's essay is, for me, a good example of painful writing, here.  Was
Campbel's initial question intentionally ironic, containing the phrase while
at the same time consisting itself of "confused prose style?"

Other than the quoted, old-timey essay, what was Campbell's message as an
anti-fanboy about?

Oh, yeah, Campbel, how about the next time that you delurk to fan the flames
of anti-fandom, how about using plain text, please?  Thanks.
