I'd like to clear this up.
By no means am I Against the Dude. I know there's "something" there,
that he does his research throughly, writes well and has made a major
contribution to the Department of Pynchon at the College of the Surf.
What I have noted is that one can use similar techniques as Charles
Hollander and reach different conclusions. There is an integral
element of paranoia in Pynchon that leads to paranoid readings of
Pynchon. The Dude's paranoid reading of CoL49:

. . . points more to the JFK assassination. MY paranoid reading points
more to CIA's MKULTRA program. I see the themes of governmental
distribution of mind-warping drugs and its ever increasing levels of
surveillance as overarching themes in all of Pynchon's writing. This,
ultimately, might be regarded as quibbling over minor details or
emphasis of one element over another.
After all is said and done, the Dude abides.
