Yes it might.

Perhaps Raymond Chandler serves better as a stylistic point of  
reference in Pynchon's work than the Henries Adams or James or any of  
those other Jameses. I kinda doubt that those Henries were over  
concerned with talking pictures and Chandler was and Pynchon most  
certainly is.
