One alternative way of subdividing the books is pre-post WW II & post-
WW II.
[Can't call GR pre-WW II, and it's not exactly post WW II either.]
And V., as Tore rightfully points out, is more of an apprentice/
journeyman work.
Another is pre and post CIA.
Again, V.'s the anomaly.

Good question.
Obviously the issue of THE BOMB! ! ! comes into play just about every
time Pynchon brings up the subject, one way or another.
