The Pynchons—their cash nexus ran aground in 1932, due to the usual  
Inherent Vice issues. I guess that's what happens when you spend all  
of your public life on yachts.

No, but seriously, they ran aground because a consortium of special  
interests who could see the propaganda 'n profit potential of the  
talkies and wanted William Fox's patents, decided to pull the  
financial ground out from Fox's feet, driving the original Fox Films  
into bankrupcy & taking along Pynchon & Co. as collateral damage & in  
the process, creating the biggest hole in international banking til  
Bear Stearns tanked.

I suppose it's just karma because of the American Waste doctrine,  
otherwise known as Pynchon vs. Stearns, is all about real estate..
