Pynchon's "White Negro" view of Watts & Scooby-Doo too

He was arrested when he came OUT of his home. I'm no fan of the
Cambridge police from personal experience. I'm also not a fan of rich,
entitled people of any color who think that they are special and can
get anything they want if they yell at the proles loudly and
forcefully enough.Somebody broke into a house. Somebody called the
police. The policeman asked for ID. It's legally ambiguous as to
whether that person has to produce ID, specially in his own home
though if it is not his own home...If Gates had simply said "Sorry you
had to come out. Here's my ID. It's my house." Problem solved. Police
officers are also trained not to respond to verbal abuse especially if
the person is in his own home, but we all know the reality of that
situation. Cambridge and Brookline MA police are notorious for their
thin skins. When confronted by one I immediately produce ID. For that
I have occassionally been asked "Why do you know the procedure?" or
"You seem to know all the right answers." Well, yeah. But I get to
walk away unarrested and the cops get to go back to looking for the
other guy who matches the description without wasting further time
listening to me scream about my rights. Is this perfect? No. Is it
right? No. Do I have to spend the night trying to sleep on a sheet
metal slab because I shot my mouth off? No. Believe me, Gates did not
spend the night in a holding tank with crack dealers. Class trumps
race.

There are actually times and places in the Boston area when you will
be stopped for being WHITE! Try driving an expensive car that's
registered in Brookline or Newton down Centre St in JP toward the
Bromley-Heath housing projects at 10PM on a weekend night. You will
find that somehow you failed to yield at the rotary or some such. As a
long time resident of that area I was glad to watch it. Go buy heroin
in your own fucking neighborhood, rich boy.

Is this class rage? Sure. But when rich, entitled fucks try to play
the race card the one time in their lives that they face stigma
outside of the fucking country club, I want to puke. I'm sure that
when the Skipster is sitting at his table in Rialto or Harvest he
doesn't think for a second about the poor bastards in the kitchen who
are sweating deportation. I'll bet he's a lousy tipper.

That's my rant. I'm done.
