It occurs to me that a scream doesn't necessarily have to be HEARD
but can be SEEN (as in that famous Muinch "The Scream.")
In those days, and also later, and calling on poetic license to
exaggerate a little, the very LOOK of an open sky might evoke terror
in a fearful populace.
In any case, the answer to the question--who would hear me?-- could be
the people on the ground.
