one of the oddest things about wallace's writing was its mostly total
lack of sex in his books--its all brain
interesting to read that he wanted to drop the maximalist pose he
created in IJ in future writings which to me was the thing that
attracted me to him in the first place.

p.s. small peeve--don't u hate when essayist try to be all gender
sensitive by replacing her for him--i.e.' we have to write for our
reader, for her, not the writer'
that's just perpetuating the gender problem--better to just say 'them', dang it
