my couple-three cents on Pynchon/Hollander

I think that whatever any of us think of Hollander's "interpretations"---
using the JFK Asassination theme to Cof L49 as my example, Pynchon
kindly told him that that reading was wrong at least by being too literal, yes?
Don't most of us--or I'll speak for myself---find so many resonances in whatever
meanings we plumb in any book?....Aren't P's themes kinda larger than a coded
homonym-drive allegory on any assassination, even of a possible Fisher King?
If CofL49 is about the tower that is America in the wake of a President-King's recent death
and some kind of alternative system, that's one thing, one level.......
A--and, I can't help thinking of P's thinking on literalness: generally agin it, ain't he?
Literalness is so.........calvinist, so the thinking of The Elect.......so bureacratic and
the way of lawn ordure........
But maybe I project.
