really rare instance here of unsatisfying syntax.  The clauses don't
fit together like I want them to
("remove the bottom drawer, put it on top, and insert his legs in the
empty space" is what I expect, 'cause darn it that would feel right)

-- lack of proofreading, or onomato-syntax (the clauses don't fit just
like Metzger doesn't fit) ???
