......About all Oedipa knows in the beginning is that she is a prisoner in a tower......
But look: she says that " all that had gone on between [she and Pierce]  them had never escaped the confinement of that tower"...
Pierce did not have "true guile naturally"......but maybe he should have used his credit card to unlock her tower door after climbing up
her conchlike stairs.      ........................
Conch: [ Among the eight symbols, the conch stands for the fame of the Buddha's teaching, which spreads in all directions like the sound of the conch ...]    Some people think of the conch as like a horn, sending sound spiraling in all directions due to their interiors.
 
I read this about their relationship along the lines of Laura's obs----they had a genuine passionate [for a time anyway] relationship as innocent lovers.....He did not win, woo her with money....she did not love him for it.......They got halfway out of the tower until he fell on his ass......She almost joined the Establishment, which was not all evil.........
 
But she married Mucho instead.....Mucho, Mucho, more on mucho......talk to us, Mucho....

 
 



 




Seems right..........She is home in Kinneret [Sea of Galilee, obvious religious allusion] , a home that is still "alive" 
and she has received word she is an executrix of a California real estate mogul's estate.............

I think the point is not what she says but what she is stared at by
(and not vice versa). I mean if the TV tube represents an eye that can
see, death, and God, this is a kind of "sacred moment", if I'm allowed
to plant such a spoiler.
