rubrics (I like that word), wrecking crews and hugfests

a) I think Robin brings a lot of interesting facts under his chosen rubrics
- family history
- occultism
- CIA
- Firesign
- noir
- anarchism
b) I don't think his rubrics completely encompass the novels but I
don't think he claims to.
One effect they've had on me is to draw in material that I would have
considered extraneous;
I sometimes do not find it integral or seminal but I usually end up
admitting it's relevant!
If not relevant directly to the text (imho) it is pretty consistently
at least interesting.
c) is there anything easier than ignoring or deleting a post that
doesn't interest one?
or anything more fun than convincingly refuting one that one disagrees with?
So how can anything contributed in that spirit wreck a read?
d) umm, there was a point "d" but it sucked and I deleted it
e) Terrance's rubrics often involve other literary works. Many times
I'm not willing or able to read the
criticism or fictions or poems referred to, but I'm making my way into
The House of the Seven Gables
and even dreamed about it the other night. Hepzibah and her little
store. Also found some memorable
imagery in _Paterson_ although what - for lack of a better phrase I
might call - his pre-feminist perspective
was at several junctures uncomfortable for me.
And who knows, someday I may have the leisure to read the
Weisenburger monograph! Good to know
those things are out there anyway
f) sometimes my own posts grow boring. Sometimes I try to instigate hugfests...
with the usual mixed results if any...
Usually I try to stop at that point. Really not trying
to discourage anybody's freedom to flame, sometimes those interchanges
are coke-out-the-nose funny,
and now for something completely different:
g) Lynda Barry is still writing, and drawing. I think she has a new
book out but also this site has
a cartoon: http://www.marlysmagazine.com/
h) rave on...
