Just finished reading a book by one of my ethics professors. He
distinguishes know how from know whether. Know how is our ability to act.
Know whether is the wisdom that tells us whether we ought to act. As Plato
pointed out a few weeks ago, there are many more ways to go wrong than there
are ways to go right.
This leads the ethics professor to give the following advice, "Don't do
something!" "Stand there!" Dovetails nicely with Dave's quote below.
