Mr. Pynchon himself has written about how he writes in layers, overlays
as in anatomy textbooks. Or like JUST THE LASAGNA (semi-bossa nova) ---Inherent Vice p. 229.
Poetic writing exists on the surface and resonates with meaning while it might not be literally allegorical.
