I just want to say that I believe and honor that the political aspect
of revolutionay change is just one aspect of a deeper potential of a
cultural and spiritual transformation. The american revolution is
seen as much and sometimes more in Melville, Thoreau, Whitman,
Malcolm X , Mark Twain, Little Richard, Zora Neale Hurston, Bob
Dylan and through the whole history of american letters, arts,
inventions, etc. as in the political vision and its mixed historic
performance.

I also want to say that my comments about passivity are not directed
at any persons but arose principally out of an inner confrontation
with this habit of mind. So while I dislike the kind of passivity I
am talking about, I find it easier to be angry with than to change.
