7000 Romaine, the last coordinate

<< Joseph:

I wanted to revisit this question of 7000 Romaine street once more
with a couple more tidbits of information.... [snipped a *lot* of stuff]

... One more thing. All of these Tropicanas and more are the bastard
children of the the world Famous Tropicana Club in Havana, Cuba.
Which, before the reverse cashflow situation of The Communist
Revolution, was owned By Santo Trafficante and managed by Meyer
Lansky. Trafficante was connected to CIA plots against Cuba and was
alleged to be involved in the killing of JFK.

All very interesting. Certainly Robin (and now Joseph) has put a lot of thought into this. Is it all a bit of a stretch? Are we 'meant' to be making these sorts of stretches? With IV, it's harder than ever to be sure.

FWIW, since all these coordinates may be pointing us somewhere, and since you mention JFK, I'll add something else here, which I already mentioned offlist to someone but didn't think it was worth posting here. So now, here it is anyway, purely in the spirit of 'pooling information'. Whether it all adds up or not I really don't know:

As ever with Pynchon, I wonder whether I'm following a path he's
already trodden, or am I just seeing connections because I am looking
for them? But, one little example. On page 104 of IV, there's that
stuff about Spike and his 16mm movie camera, which he brought back
from Vietnam, old army equipment, but which actually originates from
WWII. So immediately I hear a little gong beat of connection:
GR/WWII/Vietnam/IV.

Ok, but the camera is made by Bell and Howell, and has
been used to film the Channel View Estates episode, where Doc knows,
as he watches that film, that he is somewhere 'in there', having been
knocked unconscious, which in itself is a parallel of Pynchon knowing
he is 'in there' in the narrative world of IV.

To cap it all, what was happening (aside from Doc getting KO'd), was that Glen Charlock was
getting murdered, even, you might say, assassinated, yes? And guess
what you find on the wikipedia page for Bell & Howell? A link to
Abraham Zapruder, because didn't ol' Abe use a Bell & Howell camera to
film the assassination of JFK.

So, if you added all this up, you might get a big fat zero, or you might go beyond, and find Pynchon still, after all these years, pointing at the JFK assassination.

Cheers
J
