In section 2, Casino Hermann Goering, when Slothrop (and the others) go to the beach....cobbles are contrasted a few times.....at least one before page 206 which I can't now find

But p. 206 (Penguin classic edition) 'He's on the broad, cobbled esplanade
lined with palms shifting now to coarse-grained black..

p. 207 'where the electric lights of the Casino, in full holocaust, are glaring off the glazed cobbles." ---what lyrical embodiment of some of TRP's major tropes, yes? I am reminded of Hopkins 'shining off shook foil" in a reverse image kind of way.....

Then, ending the third section of Casino Hermann Goering, when Slothrop
has had all his clothes stolen and feels his friends have turned against him..."when every last bit of paper and clothing connecting him to what he's been, have just, fucking, vanished. How can he meet this with any kind of grace?"....and he goes back to Katje's room and he, although afraid, does knock and she answers and says "Tyrone, I missed you"......

"Gingerly he steps across the sill then, not sure if it's a door or high window, into her deep room.
