if Mr Pynchon were gunning for a Nobel...
a) he'd already have one?
b) he'd break out the "mad explicator" from GR (as I've mentioned,
I think that's the key element from that novel that he discontinued
in later books, and although I honestly think M&D and Vineland are better
than GR - not sure about the others yet - still, it grabs
you in a special way...)
and utilize something like that tone or method or pitch or whatever it was
in some new work?
c) he'd write a novel about Benny Profane's parents?
d) he'd teach a seminar or two and give some lectures?
e) he'd appear at some benefits or something?
ah, who knows? interesting to contemplate. I can't imagine
he really wants one, whereas it's easy to imagine him
feeling happy for the winner.
John, and Joseph, I can relate to where you are coming from, but I can't
share much disappointment, having had minimal expectations.
It is a big improvement to have
somebody well-spoken, who seems to like people, in that office.
He was always plain about his plans to commit to Afghanistan
and pull out of Iraq. He seems sincere about
building infrastructure rather than just looting.
We'll see how that goes...
He also expressed doubt that Bush was a monster.
Just two of the reasons why I didn't support him fully in the first place.
Now that he is in office, I'm pleasantly surprised against
what I expected.
Got to make the best of what you've got, and there is a lot
to like about the Big O!
Civility, baby! If he continues setting that tone, I will just keep liking
him more and more!
