I know new-agers who visualize themselves as surrounded by white light as a
sort of protection ritual. Given Doc's trepidation at entering and the deep
breath that precedes this, I took it as something similar here. I don't
remember this being done in 1970, but I spent most of my hippy days in the
hinterlands.
