Why does TRP have Doc reflect on having to look 'past all that depressing detail' [of Bigfoot's unhip attempt at a hip look]... to even imagine Bigfoot married with kids?

I see an echo here of part of the village community stuff in the Olde Europe section of Against the Day.....words and insights about how everyone
knew everyone from forever so such impersonal jobs of control did not exist.  

And in America, small town/village community around M & D's time.....
